Fortuna has added another player to the squad. The attacking Alessio Da Cruz comes to Sittard on a transfer free deal after he recently had his contract dissolved at Italian Feralpisalò, playing in Serie B.

Da Cruz is not an unknown player on the Dutch fields. The Almere-born multifunctional striker made his debut in professional football at the age of 17 when he joined FC Twente. Via a loan period to FC Dordrecht, Da Cruz ended up in Italy. Da Cruz signed a multi-year contract with Novara, but was taken over by Parma after only one season for a multimillion dollar fee.

Through several loan periods at domestic and international clubs, the former Oranje youth international ended up with KV Mechelen in the summer of 2022. After barely missing a game in Belgium last season, Da Cruz decided to return to Italy in mid-2023. His contract with Feralpisalò was terminated prematurely, after which Fortuna struck and signed him on a free deal.

Americo Branco is pleased with the signing of the transfer-free Da Cruz. "Alessio is a player who has been on our radar for quite some time. Given the situation he found himself without a club, it was the right time for us to sign him. With his 27 years, he adds both experience to the selection, and the opportunity to develop himself even further as a player. Thereby, Fortuna can offer Alessio a stable environment in which he can thrive in an important phase of his career."

The one-time Cape Verde international is looking forward to his time at Fortuna. "I know the club has been following me for a long time. I am happy that this time it has become concrete and that I have signed a multi-year contract. I can't wait to get on the pitch and try to secure my place in the team."
