AZ too strong for Fortuna Women

Glenda van Lieshout did not yet have access to club top scorer Isa Dekker. The head coach therefore opted for the same line-up as a week earlier against PEC Zwolle, when the team won 0-1. However, it was AZ that started the match strongly. This also became visible on the scoreboard after fifteen minutes of football. A corner kick landed on the head of Karlijn Woons, who gave the visitors a 0-1 lead.

Fortuna seemed to have lost it, because a few minutes later the Alkmaarders struck again. Desiree van Lunteren chased a long kick from the AZ goalie, cut down her direct opponent and shot the ball into the short corner: 0-2. She thus left Claire Dinkla without a chance. That didn't make the poison cup empty. After twenty minutes, captain Moisa van Koot had to leave with an injury, Femke Pietersma took her place.

AZ also remained the dominant party for the remainder of the first half. The Sittard goal came somewhat out of the blue. Sanne Arons rushed past the Alkmaar defense and then stayed cool. With a slider she left goalkeeper Femke Liefting without a chance five minutes before the half-time signal.

In the second half, AZ remained the better, although Fortuna was closer to half of the North Hollanders. The biggest chance was for Spaan. Dinkla had to intervene on an opportunity from the attacker, who targeted the Sittard goal with a volley. The goalie was helped by the crossbar. In the final minute, AZ managed to increase the margin, again from a corner kick. Dinkla was initially able to box the ball away at the far post, but had to watch as Ilvy Zijp tipped the ball over her. The question remains, however, whether the ball was completely over the line. The referee decided so and entered a 1-3 final score on the score sheet.
