Fortuna recently learned of the death of Frans Körver. The club icon died on Saturday at the age of 87.

During his years as a player and trainer, Körver became a household name in Limburg and Dutch football. The goalkeeper made his debut in professional football in 1959 on behalf of Sittardia, predecessor of Fortuna Sittard. After more than fifty games under the bar, Körver left for MVV. He played almost four hundred matches for his Maastricht neighbor.

After his active career, Körver started his coaching career. De Schinnenaar was at the helm of FC Wageningen, Helmond Sport and De Graafschap, among others. He was also head coach at all four Limburg professional clubs. As a trainer, Körver was promoted to the Eredivisie no fewer than six times, still a Dutch record. One of those promotions was in 1982 with Fortuna. In addition to being a trainer, Körver also worked as a technical director and scout in Sittard.

Today, a minute's silence will be held before the Fortuna and Fortuna Women matches. Both teams will also play with mourning bands.

On behalf of the club, we wish all relatives a lot of strength with this loss.
