Danny Buijs has extended his contract with Fortuna Sittard. The head coach has signed a contract until mid-2027.

The 42-year-old coach took charge of the Sittard team in 2023. In his first season in Limburg, Buijs and his team finished in a creditable tenth place in the Eredivisie. In the thirteen matches of the current season, seventeen points were collected, enough for eighth place.

“I am really enjoying myself in Sittard," said the former professional from Dordrecht after signing his contract. "The fact that the club wanted to sit down at this stage already shows confidence. At Fortuna, I was given the opportunity to develop further and I believe in the potential of the group we work with every day. I still see a lot of growth potential across the board at this club."

"I also feel the support and appreciation from the stands. It is fantastic how we are supported by our supporters both at home and away. Fortuna feels like a warm family club to me, it is nice to work here. I am therefore proud that I have extended my contract with Fortuna."

Buijs himself played over 250 matches in professional football and wore the shirt of FC Groningen and Feyenoord, among others. The Dordrecht native ended his active career in 2014 at Kozakken Boys, the club where he also took his first steps as head coach. After four seasons, Buijs transferred to FC Groningen, after which a period at KV Mechelen followed.
