2023 Fortuna Go Ahead Pinto

Fortuna started the new calendar year disappointingly, failing to convince Saturday night against Go Ahead Eagles. Head coach Julio Velázquez's team started the game as the superior side, but had to leave the initiative to the guests after the somewhat surprising opening goal. With goals from Bas Kuipers and Bobby Adekanye, the team from Deventer eventually won 0-2.

The opening phase of the match was for Fortuna. The ball went around quickly, Go Ahead Eagles struggled to stay upright. The biggest chance in the opening phase was for Burak Yilmaz. After a cross from the right by Umaro Embaló, the Fortuna captain headed in hard, but with a sublime save goalkeeper Jeffrey de Lange prevented his team from going behind early. Gradually in the first half Go Ahead Eagles got better in the match.

René Hake's team handled the chances very efficiently. After 21 minutes a stray ball in the box ended up at the feet of captain Kuipers. From close range the free defender gave Fortuna goalkeeper Ivor Pandur the lead: 0-1. Just before half time Go Ahead Eagles doubled its lead, after ball loss in Fortuna's midfield Enric Llansana served teammate Adekanye the ball. The latter remained extremely cold-blooded in finishing: 0-2.

Velázquez tried to give his team new impetus with some substitutions at halftime. With Rémy Vita and newcomer Thomas Buitink, he brought in two newcomers. In the second half, however, he was unable to create any real danger in the attack, and it was significant that goalkeeper De Lange did not have to intervene once. Go Ahead Eagles defended very compactly and hardly gave anything away defensively.
