Fortuna starts pre-season with a draw
Fortuna officially kicked off its practice campaign in a sun-drenched Kelpen-Oler. The match against FC Eindhoven ended 1-1.
Head coach Danny Buijs had to do without the injured Öguzhan Özyakup and Ivor Pandur, who will join later due to international obligations with Croatia U21. Many familiar names appeared at the start due to the minimal personnel problems. Luuk Koopmans was the only newcomer in the starting line-up.
Those who came for the goals had to be on time Saturday. FC Eindhoven took the lead after more than five minutes of play through an own goal by Dimitrios Siovas. A back play by the defender ended unhappily in the Sittard goal. A few minutes later it was equal again, this time through a mistake by goalkeeper Jort Borgmans. The goalie delivered the ball to Iñigo Córdoba, who was then able to work it in easily.
Fortuna went in search of a second goal immediately after the equalizer. In the remainder of the game the Sittard formation prevailed, especially Córdoba and Tijjani Noslin had several chances. The biggest chance was for the Spaniard, who got free in front of the goalkeeper via a subtle hook from Paul Gladon. Borgmans, however, managed to turn away Córdoba's effort.
In the second half Buijs sent ten new players into the field, with only goalkeeper Koopmans remaining. The many changes made for a messy start on both sides. After an hour of play the guests from Eindhoven took over the initiative and Koopmans had to come into action several times. With verve, because FC Eindhoven did not score at Sportpark 't Ven.
