Fortuna moves on after victory in Eindhoven
Fortuna qualified for the next cup round on Tuesday night through a 0-2 win at the expense of FC Eindhoven. The goals were scored by Tijjani Noslin and Kaj Sierhuis.
Mitchel Dijks and Dimitrios Siovas were missing from the matchday squad due to injury, with Loreintz Rosier taking Deroy Duarte's place. The KNVB appeals committee had dismissed Noslin's red card, so the speedy winger also appeared at the kickoff.
In the drizzling Jan Louwers stadium, 450 Fortuna fans in the full away section provided the atmosphere for 90 minutes. They saw that Fortuna was on top from the kickoff, FC Eindhoven left the initiative to the Eredivisie team. In the early stages Kaj Sierhuis was close to a goal, his shot landed on the fists of Eindhoven goalkeeper Jorn Brondeel. After twenty minutes Iñigo Córdoba had the opening goal on his shoe, but he shot wide. In the thirtieth minute, a cross from captain Ivo Pinto reached the alert Noslin. From close range he remained cool: 0-1. The home team could do little in return, only Farouq Limouri came close after a fine free kick from the right by Sven Simons. Limouri came inches short of scoring.
Soon after halftime, Fortuna doubled its lead. A throw in from the left side was extended by Siemen Voet and came at the feet of Sierhuis. With a fine strike the striker was again successful: 0-2. The game was played, the home club was unable to create any real chances due to good defense on the Fortuna side. Mawouna Amevor and substitute Joey Sleegers tried their luck with a header, but goalkeeper Ivor Pandur did not have to come into action. In the closing stages Fortuna created a lot of space on the counter, but this did not lead to a third goal.
