2023 Fortuna Heerenveen Burak

Fortuna won its home match against sc Heerenveen 2-0 on Wednesday night. The goals both fell in the second half, scored by Úmaro Embaló and Burak Yilmaz. The win moves Fortuna up to twelfth place in the league table.

At opponent Heerenveen, Dutch national team-goalkeeper Andries Noppert was not fit enough to start the match. He was still on the starting line-up, but an injury kept the long goalie on the sidelines. He was replaced by Xavier Mous. At Fortuna, newcomer Kristijan Bistrovic started immediately.

Fortuna put their opponents under pressure from the first minute, but the lead did not lead to any real opportunities. After 25 minutes the first big chance of the match followed. George Cox found Burak after a corner, who cleverly played the ball back to Bistrović. With the necessary effort, Mous prevented his team from falling behind. Eight minutes later another danger in front of goal, Burak came centimeters short to finish off good preparatory work by Oguzhan Özyakup, goalkeeper Mous saved. The guests had one real threat in the first half, when Antoine Colassin's shot was turned into a corner by Fortuna goalkeeper Ivor Pandur.

After halftime, Fortuna was again the dominant player. After just under an hour of play, the home club deservedly took the lead. Iñigo Córdoba delivered the ball on the right wing to Burak, who had a beautiful cross to Úmaro. The outfielder headed the ball beautifully behind goalkeeper Mous: 1-0. A few minutes later Rodrigo Guth had an excellent opportunity to double the lead, but after a corner he headed just over.

Heerenveen made some substitutions and tried to take control of the game. The only really big chance for the equalizer was for Pelle van Amersfoort, but he shot wide in a promising position. Fortuna had several chances on the counterattack to score the decisive second goal, but it was not until well into injury time that they managed to get the second goal. Burak appeared free in front of goalkeeper Mous, who fouled the Turkish striker, after which the ball was awarded the spot. From eleven meters Burak again remained cool: 2-0. It was his fifth straight penalty this season, a club record.
