Fortuna loses on visit to Wiesbaden
Fortuna failed to end the visit to Wiesbaden victoriously. The home team was 1-0 too strong for the Sittard formation.
For Wehen Wiesbaden it was the last game of the preparation. The promoted team will kick off the 2. Bundesliga season on Saturday at home against Magdeburg. For the team of head coach Danny Buijs it was the third practice match. The coach had reserved a spot for Loreintz Rosier and Ivor Pandur.
Fortuna started the match strongly. The first chances were for Buijs' team, where especially Tijjani Noslin was close to the opening goal. The striker got the space to strike, but goalkeeper Florian Stritzel turned away the hard shot. A few minutes later Paul Gladon popped up in the box, but his effort rolled wide. Wiesbaden countered with an effort from Kianz Froese, he hit the post.
After half an hour, the game became more balanced. Arianit Ferati saw a watched ball hit the top of the crossbar, at the other end the home team hit the post again and Remy Vita turned a ball on the goal line. Despite the chances, no goals were scored, leaving the glasses on the scoreboard at the start of the tea break.
In the second half, Wiesbaden took an early lead. Deroy Duarte unnecessarily lost the ball and saw Froese take full advantage of that by sliding the ball past Pandur in the short corner. Right after the kickoff there was another great chance for the Germans, this time due to a slip by Rodrigo Guth. Hollerbach, however, shot the ball just wide.
In the remainder of the match, Wiesbaden remained the superior side. Fortuna tried again through Noslin and Gladon, but were unable to pass Stritzel. On the Fortuna side, Pandur was important on several occasions, turning away two shots from close range. Neither team scored again, leaving the 1-0 scoreboard.
