Fortuna can't surprise in Amsterdam
Fortuna suffered a defeat against Ajax on Sunday afternoon. At the Johan Cruijff ArenA, the reigning national champion was too strong, 4-0.
In the first match of the season, Ajax struggled against Fortuna, the Amsterdammers won only narrowly 3-2. Fortuna held Feyenoord to a draw at Kuip earlier this season, so the question was whether Fortuna could get the same result in Amsterdam.
From the start Ajax took the initiative, Steven Berghuis in particular was elusive for the Fortuna defense. Already after six minutes the opening goal was a fact. Berghuis cut inside from the right side and produced a well-aimed curling ball into the long corner with his left foot. Via the post the ball went into the goal: 1-0.
After twenty minutes of play, Dusan Tadic seemed to take advantage of a short back pass from Remy Vita, but on the goal line Rodrigo Guth prevented another goal with his head. A few minutes later, however, Ajax doubled the lead after all, again Berghuis was the celebrated man on the home side. On a pass from captain Dusan Tadic, he shot hard: 2-0.
Fortuna was dangerous twice in the first half, both times through Burak Yilmaz. A shot by the Turkish captain was turned away by an Ajax defender, and a bit later Burak hit Ajax goalkeeper Rulli.
Head coach Julio Velázquez made two changes at halftime; Paul Gladon and Ximo Navarro made their appearances. However, the picture did not change much. Nine minutes after halftime the third Ajax goal became a reality, after a short corner kick Steven Bergwijn lashed in hard from the edge of the penalty area: 3-0.
The game was definitely played, the Amsterdammers still had several chances to increase the score. A few minutes before the end of the match, Kevin Taylor scored the fourth goal, a diagonal shot that left Ivor Pandur with no chance: 4-0.
Line-up: Pandur, Pinto, Guth, Siovas, Vita (46’ Navarro), Bistrovic, Erdogan (46’ Gladon), Özyakup (63’ Duarte), Noslin (63’ Embalo), Yilmaz (79’ Buitnk), Córdoba.
