Fortuna has strengthened in the winter transfer market with Justin Lonwijk. The multifunctional midfielder is on loan from the Ukraine side Dynamo Kiev.

Fortuna was looking to add an extra midfielder to the squad, partly because of the absence of Deroy Duarte this month. In that search, Fortuna ended up with Lonwijk, who spent the past six months on a loan for RSC Anderlecht.

Technical manager Americo Branco is pleased that Lonwijk will join Fortuna in the coming months. "With Lonwijk we bring in a player who can play in multiple positions. It is a Dutch boy who knows the league well, which makes him extra interesting. Moreover, he has already shown his qualities in foreign competitions as well."

Lonwijk is looking forward to returning to the Dutch fields. "It is a great opportunity for me to be able to show my qualities at the highest level in the Netherlands. In recent years I have been active abroad. A very nice experience, but I am happy to go for my chances at Eredivisie level. In addition, my little brother played here two seasons ago and he was also very positive about the club. That makes the step extra nice." Justin Lonwijk is the older brother of Nigel Lonwijk, who was active for the Sittardeners on a loan basis during the 2021/2022 season.

Justin Lonwijk started in the youth academy of his hometown Tilburg, at Willem II. He then made the switch to PSV, making his debut in Dutch professional soccer with Jong PSV. Via Eindhoven, he joined FC Utrecht, for which he made his debut in the Eredivisie. Lonwijk then left the Netherlands behind and played a year and a half with Danish side Viborg FF. In the summer of 2022, Dynamo Kiev acquired the 24-year-old midfielder, the club that loaned him to RSC Anderlecht in recent months.
