Fortuna failed to cause a surprise against PSV on Saturday night. The leaders were too strong 3-1.

At Fortuna, Mitchell Dijks was missing from the squad, having not recovered sufficiently from his injury. Arianit Ferati also had to miss the match due to an injury, Mouhamed Belkheir was suspended. Alen Halilovic was fit enough to start, midfielder Loreintz Rosier was also given a starting place by head coach Danny Buijs.

PSV was the team with the most ball possession from the kick-off, Fortuna had things in good shape defensively. The home club was mainly dangerous through shots from distance. After ten minutes, the supporters of the team from Eindhoven rallied, as a hard shot by Olivier Boscagli was turned away by Fortuna goalkeeper Ivor Pandur. In the rebound Luuk de Jong worked the ball into the goal, however referee Dieperink had detected a hand play. The goal was rightly cancelled.

After about 20 minutes of play, PSV did take the lead. Hirving Lozano, substitute for the injured Noa Lang, delivered the ball to Johan Bakayoko, who served Guus Til to size. From close range, Til slid the ball into the goal: 1-0. Even after the opening goal, PSV continued to dominate, without creating any major chances. Fortuna could not embarrass the home club's defense, and a low-key game developed.

Ten minutes after halftime, Fortuna suffered two setbacks in quick succession. Tijjani Noslin had to pull out with an injury, a little later the second goal for PSV was a fact. Joey Veerman found André Ramalho after a corner kick, who headed in hard: 2-0. After doubling the lead, the home club dropped the tempo, twelve minutes before time a fine individual action of Belgian international Johan Bakayoko provided the third goal. After a short dribble from the right side, the flank player provided the most beautiful goal of the evening with a hard strike into the triangle: 3-0.

In injury time Fortuna Sittard did something back. After a foul in the penalty area by Malik Tilmann on substitute Iman Griffith, the ball went to the penalty spot. Another substitute on the Fortuna side, Kaj Sierhuis, stayed cool and scored his first league goal of the season: 3-1.
