Nathan Markelo strengthens Sittard defense
Nathan Markelo is making the switch from Fortuna. The 24-year-old defender has signed for one season, with the option for two additional seasons.
The right back was under contract with Excelsior last season. "I am looking forward to my adventure at Fortuna," said Markelo, who will play with jersey number 24. "I am looking forward to the new season immensely and can't wait to be on the training field with my new teammates. I am grateful to Fortuna for the trust, now it is up to me to repay that with 100 percent commitment."
"We are pleased with the arrival of Nathan," leaves technical manager Americo Branco on record. "He has gained experience in England in recent years and also already has playing minutes in the Eredivisie behind his name. We hope he can take the next step next season and eventually reach his full potential."
Markelo went through FC Volendam's youth training before making the switch to English side Everton in 2017. The right-back eventually made his debut in professional soccer during his loan spell with FC Twente. Markelo finally returned to the Dutch fields in 2021 at Jong PSV, last season the Groninger made his minutes for Excelsior. In total, the triple international of Curaçao came to 59 matches in professional football.
