Inaccurate Fortuna loses in Deventer
Fortuna lost the away match against Go Ahead Eagles 2-0. Fortuna was not really inferior to the home club, however, the team from Deventer handled their chances more efficiently.
In the opening stages, the better opportunities were for Fortuna. Dimitrios Siovas saw a close-range effort blocked by a defender, Ivo Pinto shot just over from distance. After 17 minutes, the home club entered the Fortuna penalty area for the first time. It also meant the opening goal, after a corner kick from the right side, Icelandic midfielder Willum Willumson tapped the ball into the ropes from close range: 1-0. It took some time for the VAR to rule on possible offside, but the goal was eventually found to be correct.
Go Ahead then left the initiative to Fortuna, but the best chances were for the home club. Evert Linthorst missed a good chance, Willumson was close to another goal with his head and Oliver Edvardsen tested the qualities of Fortuna goalkeeper Ivor Pandur with a shot from distance. In the final minutes of the first half, Fortuna showed itself threatening a few times. Tijjani Noslin tested the qualities of goalkeeper Jeffrey de Lange with a shot from sixteen meters into the lower right corner, moments later the equalizer seemed to become a reality. Paul Gladon, on a pass from Iñigo Córdoba, beautifully turned away from his direct opponent. However, the striker slipped just as he was about to strike. As a result, this excellent opportunity was lost.
Soon after halftime, Bas Kuipers was dangerous twice within a few minutes, both times Pandur intervened well. Shots by Rashaan Fernandes and former Fortunee Finn Stokkers disappeared just wide. Fortuna was also dangerous on several occasions, especially from stationary situations. Paul Gladon headed over, after a corner kick by Kristijan Bistrovic. A free kick by the same Bistrovic disappeared into the side-netting. Fifteen minutes before time, the home club decided the game definitively in its favor. After a quick counter-attack, substitute Xander Blomme took a hard shot from the edge of the penalty area: 2-0. Fortuna did not have the power to really push again to give the game a twist.
