First contract player arrives in Sittard

Fortuna Vrouwen presented almost the entire selection for the 2022/2023 season in recent months. Those not yet presented to the outside world were the first contract players in club history. The first was Farkhunda Muhtaj, who became the first player to step into the ambitious project. The 24-year-old Afghan signed her commitment until mid-2023.

Muhtaj embodies the motivations of Fortuna and partner Azerion to realize a women's team. The midfielder is an advocate for human rights, those of women in particular. Among other things, she is an ambassador for Penny Appael Canada, which works to raise awareness about humanitarian issues. In addition, she is captain of Afghanistan's national women's team.

Muhtaj: "I am extremely pleased with my transfer to Fortuna and want to play an active role in achieving the team objectives. This new challenge comes with new opportunities. Besides this experience, I would like to further develop myself and grow as a player. In my role, I want to encourage young girls and women to fight for their dreams."

Muhtaj was born in Afghanistan, but grew up in Canada. There she was introduced to the sport and had the opportunity to play soccer at the professional level at Vaughan Azzurri. In recent months, she was under contract with Fatih Vatan SK, playing in Turkey.
