Fortuna honours Fernando Ricksen with special kit
Today, September 18th, 2024, it's been five years since club icon Fernando Ricksen lost his courageous battle against the terrible disease ALS. To remember this moment, Fortuna Sittard is playing against Ajax and PSV this week in a special kit.
Unique jersey
The specially designed kit is an ode to Fernando Ricksen and will go straight into the history books because of a unique badge. This is because the kit contains a holographic logo, which has never before been used in Dutch professional soccer. A pioneering tribute to Ricksen in which the Fortuna logo seamlessly transitions from multiple angles to a powerful silhouette of Fernando Ricksen. Furthermore, the neck incorporates the slogan Never Give Up, which refers to Fernando's unprecedented fighting spirit. Lastly, the colors of the jersey refer to his time in Glasgow, because here too he conquered the hearts of many fans with his passion and commitment.
ALS Foundation
Never Give Up is a motto of Ricksen that became even more powerful during his long battle with the muscular disease ALS. By launching this kit we want to draw attention to this muscle disease, this is why several initiatives have been set up to make a financial contribution to the ALS Foundation. 10% of every shirt sold will go to the foundation, thereby an extra auction will be organised with MatchWornShirt, a fundraising will be held around the home match against PSV and there is an online fundraising page where people can make a donation.

You can ensure yourself of a shirt by ordering online, however the shirt will probably being delivered from 25 September. The shirts are available for kids from size 92 to 164, the adult sizes range from S to 4XL. The prices are respectively €59.95 for children's sizes and €69.95 for adults. The official white shorts (€29.95) and official blue match socks (€17.50), to complete the outfit, are also available. Due to Ajax’s white shorts, the game against them will be played in alternative red shorts. These will not be available for sale.
Fortuna hopes to donate as much as possible to the ALS Foundation. That is why it has been decided not to apply the member discount to this shirt.
