2022 Kampioenschap U21

The highest youth team, Fortuna U21, on Saturday crowned itself champion of the autumn competition in Division 4B. The team of head coach Gino Facenna needed only one point against Spartaan '20, but also took the full prize in the twelfth round. With two games to go, pursuer FC Eindhoven has been put at an unbridgeable disadvantage.

Fortuna U21 is having a strong season. The team won all league matches so far, so the question was not if they would become champion, but when. The difference in quality with their league mates became clear again Saturday against Spartaan '20 from Rotterdam. Goals by top scorer Namory Ciss and defender Stijn Hogervorst gave the team a 2-0 lead before halftime.

The score was further expanded after halftime, one goal more beautiful than the other. Jonathan van der Pol was able to find the far corner after a solo from the left, while Cisse left the goalkeeper defenseless with a controlled free kick. Mika Peters also appeared on the scoreboard, the midfielder easily slotting in after Sam Krawczyk laid the ball back. The final chord was for Bryant Nieling. The defender made the 6-0 in beautiful fashion, surprising the goalkeeper from over fifty meters.

In the coming weeks, two more Fortuna Academy teams will compete for the championship. Fortuna U18 came out on top on Saturday by winning by themselves, while direct competitor Helmond Sport lost. With two games to go, head coach Maurice Hamstra's team has it in its own hands. The same goes for Fortuna U16, although they can decide next weekend in a duel with SC 't Zand.
