Fortuna wins after convincing first half

Fortuna coach Danny Buijs had left his starting eleven intact after last week's draw at De Kuip against national champions Feyenoord. That confidence paid off, with Fortuna taking the lead after barely eight minutes of play. A far throw from the right side by captain Ivo Pinto was extended by Paul Gladon with his head. Almere defender Hamdi Akujobi had to intervene before Tijjani Noslin, who was standing behind him, could lay on the ball. Akujobi worked the ball behind his own goalie: 1-0.

After the early lead Fortuna was increasingly on top, after a combination with Gladon, Iñigo Córdoba appeared face to face with goalkeeper Nordin Bakker. The keeper made a fine save. After twenty minutes another precarious situation in front of the Almere goal, this time Theo Barbet almost put the ball into his own goal. Bakker just managed to save. A few minutes later the goalie had to capitulate, after a nice cross from Alen Halilovic the ball landed on the head of Loreintz Rosier. He deposited the ball into the long corner: 2-0. Almost from the kickoff Fortuna had the opportunity to take the game definitively to itself, after a beautiful pass from Deroy Duarte Noslin came free for goalkeeper Bakker. The goalie saved skilfully.

Na ruim een half uur spelen kwamen de gasten uit het niets terug in de wedstrijd, het doelpunt dat werd gescoord was uiterst fraai. Na een combinatie over diverse schijven werd Thomas Robinet in het strafschopgebied gevonden, met een schot in de lange hoek liet hij Ivor Pandur kansloos: 2-1. In de slotfase van de eerste helft was Halilovic nog tot twee keer toe dicht bij een treffer, vooral zijn tweede inzet had een beter lot verdiend.

Na rust kwamen de gasten duidelijk beter in de wedstrijd. Lance Duijvestijn schoot hard in, Pandur redde bekwaam. Na een korte solo schoot Akujobi voorlangs. De spanning werd duidelijk voelbaar in het stadion, invaller Kaj Sierhuis had aan alle onzekerheid een einde kunnen maken. Zijn schot in kansrijke positie ging echter voorlangs. In de absolute slotsecondes van de blessuretijd waren de gasten nog een keer dicht bij de gelijkmaker. Na een voorzet van de linkerkant van Manel Royo Castell eiste opnieuw Akujobi een hoofdrol op. Vrijstaand bij de tweede paal leek hij te scoren, zijn kopbal ging tot opluchting van alles en iedereen van Fortuna echter voorlangs. Waarna de eerste driepunter van het seizoen voor Fortuna een feit was.
