Julio Velázquez new head coach Fortuna
Fortuna has appointed a new head coach in the person of Julio Velázquez. The 40-year-old Spaniard has signed a commitment until the end of the season. In the coach's wake also come assistant coach Jaime Mut, performance coach Javier Chocarro and data analyst Miguel Pérez to Sittard.
The brand new head coach is looking forward to his period in Sittard: "I have analyzed the selection carefully over the past period. There is a group with enormous potential, the position in the league table gives a distorted picture in my opinion. Of course the position brings pressure, but you shouldn't run away from that. We all have to work towards the common goal of taking this club higher."
The new head coach waited a while, partly to avoid making hasty decisions. "We have spoken with several trainers over the past period," said technical manager Sjoerd Ars. "Julio impressed in his presentation by the way he had analyzed our team, including the pain points, but very much also the possibilities. We are convinced that he is currently the right man to start bringing energy, tactical discipline and intensity to our team. If we can all bring that about we will hopefully leave the bottom ranks soon."
Velázquez -who worked for Villarreal, Udinese and Deportivo Alaves, among others- will arrive in the Netherlands on Saturday and will attend the away game against N.E.C. Nijmegen from the stands. On Monday, the coach will be on the training pitch for the first time.
