Maas Cleanup 96 2

Saturday, March 23, the Maas Cleanup will take place for the fifth year in a row. An initiative to make the Maas, its tributaries and ponds and the further source area in Limburg litter-free. Fortuna also takes its social role in this.

More sustainable behavior
Last year as many as 7,500 people, clad in the familiar light blue vests, put out their hands to give river nature from Eijsden to the Mookerhei the protection it deserves. The connection between Fortuna and the Meuse is obvious: the river flows through the Western Mining Region, through villages where many residents have "a Fortuna heart. "We would like to contribute to cleaner river nature as well as make people in the region aware of more sustainable behavior," says Coen Cremers, manager CSR.

Clean-up campaign in Sittard

For the cleanup day in March, Fortuna is working with the already existing WijSchwienswei initiative to clean up the forest and stream. "We are trying to play a pioneering role by showing how things can be done differently in a simple way. With our contribution to the action, we also hope to enthuse our supporters to participate in one of the many initiatives around the Maas Cleanup."

Action in the neighborhood

There are more than 1,000 pieces of trash per 100 meters of Maas bank. Waste that is left lying around affects biodiversity and the quality of our (drinking) water. A clean Meuse offers people and animals in the catchment area better access to clean drinking water and a cleaner living environment. All help to make the Meuse waste-free again during Maas Cleanup Day is therefore welcome and also needed. On the Maas Cleanup website everyone can sign up as a volunteer for an action in their neighborhood.
