2023 Danny Buijs 2

Danny Buijs will be Fortuna's new head coach. The 40-year-old coach has committed himself to the club for two seasons.

It will be Buijs' third coaching job in professional football. “I am really looking forward to starting this job,” says the brand new head coach. "I have had some very good conversations. I have a good feeling about that."

Buijs: "We must - together - do everything we can every day to represent this club in the best possible way. That must be the norm. The relationship with the supporters is essential in this. I remember that in Sittard it was always difficult to play football, especially when the public got behind the team. We have to realize that again next season. "

Buijs himself played more than 250 matches in professional football and wore the shirt of FC Groningen and Feyenoord, among others. The man from Dordrecht ended his active career in 2014 with Kozakken Boys, the club where he also took his first steps as head coach. After four seasons, Buijs made the switch to FC Groningen, followed by a period at KV Mechelen.

First choice

Américo Branco explains the choice for Buijs: “Danny fits in perfectly with the profile that we as a club had outlined in advance. He was our first choice for head coach from the start. Danny has Eredivisie experience, likes to work with young talents and can develop teams and players individually.”

Branco: “During the past period, Danny, Ivo Pfennings and I have sat around the table several times. These conversations were very positive and have only confirmed our choice. His philosophy and style of play match the passion and intensity that our fans, but also us as a club, want to see.”

The 32-year-old Branco has been active since 2014 as a technical manager at various clubs in Portugal. He has been working at Fortuna since November and has since been responsible for technical policy together with Sjoerd Ars. With the end of the transition period in sight, the Portuguese will take over from Ars as of July 1 in the role of technical manager and associated tasks. The former striker will remain connected to the club as a technical advisor and will support Branco in the field of transfers, scouting and compiling the selection.

We thank Sjoerd for his excellent work in the past 5 years and are happy that he will remain connected to the club in this role.
