Preview: Quick Boys - Fortuna Sittard
Fortuna Sittard will face Quick Boys in the second round of the KNVB Cup Tournament. A unique poster, because the teams have not yet met in an official match. Time to look ahead.
The basics
Quick Boys - Fortuna Sittard will be played on Tuesday, December 17, at 8:00 PM, at Sportpark Nieuw Zuid. The competition is led by Bas Nijhuis. There is no VAR yet at this stage of the cup tournament. The match can only be seen on ESPN's switching channel. Not in the stadium? Quick Boys this season
With Quick Boys, Fortuna meets one of the more successful amateur associations in the Netherlands. The team from Katwijk has been crowned overall Saturday champion eleven times in the past. Since 2020, the team has played in the Second Division, the third level of the Netherlands. The team of head coach Thomas Duivenvoorden finished in third place last season.
There is little reason to complain this season either. The white and blue are in the lead, three points ahead of neighbors Rijnsburgse Boys. And in the cup Quick Boys also showed that they can play decent football. The South Hollanders let Eredivisionist Almere City leave with their tail between their legs. They won 3-0 at their own sports complex.
In the run-up to Tuesday's cup match, low-flying Scheveningen had to be dealt with. Quick Boys took the lead at home, with Patrick Brouwer hitting the target from eleven meters. Shortly after half-time, however, the away team came level. Despite the enormous dominance, the Katwijkers were unable to score again, so they had to settle for a draw: 1-1.
The squad
Quick Boys is home to several players with a professional past, including an old acquaintance. Paul van der Helm, the first goalkeeper in Katwijk, played one match for Fortuna in 2016. A few weeks after his debut, the goalie disappeared into amateur football via HBS. But there are more selection members with experience in professional football. For example, Anwar Bensabouh played more than a hundred matches in the Kitchen Champion Division on behalf of Almere City and Telstar, while also Nick Broekhuizen (ADO Den Haag), Marcus Scholten (Helmond Sport), Luuk Admiraal (Excelsior), Brouwer (Sparta Rotterdam/FC Emmen ) minutes at a professional level.
That the club can also serve as a springboard became clear again last summer. Sem van Duijn switched to Jong AZ, while Guus Offerhaus and Tyrone Owusu switched to Telstar. Striker Youssef el Kachati, currently one of Telstar's standouts, was also taken over from Quick Boys.
Eye-catcher(s)
The Junte-Zonneveld-Brouwer-Broekhuizen quartet is doing well. The foursome together scored 34 of the 46 goals in the current season. The Sittard defense has therefore been warned.
The last meeting
It is the first time that both teams face each other.
