Fortuna adds Wil Boessen to technical staff

Boessen will serve as assistant of head coach Danny Buijs. The Sittarden native is obviously no stranger to Fortuna. The former defender started his active career in the youth of Fortuna and made his debut in professional football in Sittard. In total, Boessen played over 250 games in the yellow and green of Fortuna. With the Sittarden squad he promoted twice to the Eredivisie.

After Boessen stopped playing football, he was also active as (youth) trainer at Fortuna. First between 1999 and 2002 as trainer within the Academy and then between 2012 and 2014 as head coach. Subsequently, he was in charge of the club at FC Oss, FC Den Bosch and Helmond Sport. In between, he gained several years of experience in Asia, as Boessen worked at two different clubs in Thailand.

In recent years Boessen was active for PSV. In Eindhoven he first worked as assistant coach at Jong PSV and was responsible for the development and progression of youth players to the first team. In the past year, Boessen was head coach of Jong PSV.

Boessen is ready for his new challenge in Sittard: “It is fantastic to be able to return to the club where it all started for me. In the past I have been active at Fortuna in various roles, so I know the club extremely well. I have always followed Fortuna and hope that with my gained experience I can make a valuable contribution to the stability of the club.”
